Logo development

I think that a logo is perhaps the most important aspect for a company. It is the thing that the potential customer first reads about the magazine and can determine the look of the entire magazine.
I really wanted to work hard to make the logo effective and to do this I think that using embossing and contouring on photoshop makes a HUGE difference and looks much more professional. Here is a picture of the same font, the only difference is with one logo I have used embossing, contouring and drop shadow. This is part of the attention to detail that I plan to include in my magazines.

In my final music mag I really want to make my own logo to make the final piece a completely original idea.
I have tried out a few examples of logos to see which design i think would be most attractive.
These are my first attempts at creating a logo, I wanted it to be bold, large and at the top of my page. I think using a very basic font with no effects makes it look quite amateur and using a generic font doesn't make the brand stand out to the potential buyer.

Pictures for the school magazine

Here are the photos that I took for my school magazine. I wanted them to be within the college environment and somewhere that everyone would recognise. I also tried to incorporate a 'Christmas' element to my photos as I think that it shows a sense of progression in the magazine. The photos consist of a mixture of midpoint and full body shots. I hope to use a portrait mid point shot for my front cover as a full body shot doesn't look quite right on a cover and the other pics for my contents.

School Magazine Intro and Planning

Name

We decided to call our College magazine ridge, due to the fact that both Helenswood and William Parker are located of the ridge and the magazine is general news surrounding both sites.

Ideas
I want to use a different colour scheme for each issue that I do that runs throughout the issue. I thought it would make the magazine much more attractive and create something a little different from the same design every issue, which can get boring and make people notice the magazine less.
I also want to incorporate Seasonal themes into our photographs, aiming to choose photos showing images relating to that time of the year such as the start of the football season, landscape pictures, seasonal recipes and a Christmas themed front cover.
We also thought adding a competition aspect to the magazine would make more exciting for the readers.

Values
We hold achievement and success very high within our magazine. We consider strong interest in any aspect of college life something we want to promote, whether it be cookery or sports. We believe that if you are interested in something then it should be celebrated.

Masthead design
We wanted our design to be bold and simple, we didn't want anything that detracted from the whole point of the magazine. But the colour changes with the themes every issue.

Number of pages
We wanted 8 pages, which would comfortably fit everything we needed in.
